Destined to become a classic, this book,
the first volume in the Swami Ramdas pilgrimage trilogy, is the extraordinary
spiritual autobiography of Swami Ramdas, renowned Indian saint. This
is the tale of a pilgrimage, vividly and compellingly told, the enthralling
story of his journey as a homeless monk traveling the ancient roads
and holy places of India. It describes his wanderings as an itinerant,
mendicant sadhu, energized and inspired by the constant repetition
of the name of God (a meditation practiced by many of the world's
religions for thousands of years), striving always to maintain that
transformational awareness of God-consciousness.
Although this book is the first volume
in a trilogy chronicling Swami Ramdas' spiritual journeys, it stands
perfectly on its own. Since his death in 1963, Swami Ramdas' reputation,
which had become well established during his life, has continued to
expand and flourish even here in the West.
This book recounts the life of an inspired and God-intoxicated
soul. Along with his constant God-awareness, no matter the circumstances
in which he found himself, Swami Ramdas never failed to notice the lighter
side, which appealed to his keen sense of the comic and ludicrous in
life.
